Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that there is no plan to levy an extra tax on diesel automobiles.

 

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has stated that there is no proposal to levy an additional 10% GST on the sale of diesel vehicles. He further stated that there have been media reports stating that the sale of diesel vehicles will be subject to an additional 10% GST. Gadkari stated on social media that the government is not considering such a plan. According to him, active adoption of cleaner and greener fuels is essential in order to meet the government's promise to attain carbon net zero by 2070 and reduce air pollution levels caused by harmful fuels such as diesel.
