E. coli outbreak: Premier demands probe of shared kitchens at Calgary daycares

Following preliminary results suggesting the kitchen was the source of E.coli germs that infected children at Calgary daycares, Alberta Premier Daniel Smith has ordered an investigation of all of the city's daycares. The kitchen is temporarily closed due to the presence of E. coli in over 200 children.Cockroaches and filthy conditions were discovered during the inspection here. Smith then ordered an examination and evaluation of all kitchens. Smith stated that all precautions will be made to prevent the disease from spreading to children.The government of Calgary has provided financial help to families of children being treated for E. coli at daycares. Premier Daniel Smith stated that each household will get a lump amount of $2,000.00. The one-time payout would cost around $2.5 million, according to Alberta Children and Family Services.
