York Regional Police have launched a new program to combat auto theft in the region. Vehicle theft has increased dramatically in recent years. Since 2019, there has been a 200 percent increase, according to the police. Against this backdrop, the police have launched a campaign called 'Operation Auto Guard' in order to deter vehicle theft. To reduce the theft of high-end vehicles, the Crime Prevention Campaign relies on data, crime prevention measures, and community engagement.

As reported by police, 3,300 vehicles have been stolen this year. According to police, almost 90% of those are in the cities of Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham.
