Greenbelt scandal: RCMP probes Ontario government

 

In Ontario, the RCMP has launched an inquiry into the Greenbelt scam. The RCMP has decided to conduct a thorough inquiry into the government's decision to allow developers to build on portions of the greenbelt. The RCMP stated in a statement that it has initiated an inquiry into accusations relating to the decision. The inquiry is being carried out by the RCMP Ontario Division's Sensitive and International Investigations Unit. It is unknown whether the probe is criminal in character. The plan to exploit 15 protected sections of land has been heavily criticized. Despite claiming that the construction was necessary to satisfy housing targets, Premier Doug Ford was compelled to revoke his decision in mid-September.
