The Alberta government has committed $11 million to nurse bridging programs that would train internationally educated nurses. Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Higher Education, made the news at the University of Lethbridge. These nurses will now have access to approximately 1221 post-secondary institution vacancies. So they can finish the programs needed for accreditation in Alberta, he explained. This includes 848 new registered nurse seats and 373 new licensed practical nurse seats at nine post-secondary institutions throughout the province. The minister also stated that these extra seats will be developed over a three-year period to assist nurses trained in other countries in working, living, and becoming licensed in Alberta.
