The removal of 41 Canadian ambassadors from India, according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has caused suffering for hundreds of thousands of people in both nations. He also slammed India's desire to cut the number of Canadian diplomatic missions without even following basic diplomatic rules. He went on to say that India's decision is having a significant impact on the lives of many people. He stated that travel and trade between the two countries, as well as Indian students studying in Canada, would suffer.

At the same time, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs responded that no international diplomatic accords had been violated. India has argued that Canadian diplomats are meddling in its internal matters and that there should be a balance of diplomats in both countries. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the action is in accordance with the Vienna Convention's constitution.
