A technocrat, Lan Fon has been appointed China's new finance minister.

 

Lan Fon, a scientist with little central government experience, has been selected as China's new finance minister as the government pumps up economic stimulus in an effort to rescue the economy. Lan, 61, was formerly the party chief of northern China's Shaanxi province before being designated Communist Party chairman at the finance ministry last month to follow Liu Kun, who has been finance minister since 2018. Lan's appointment coincides with China's increased economic stimulus.
