Canadians of Indian heritage are scrambling to give up their Indian passports to travel to India. To return to India, Canadian Canadians born in India must present surrender certificates and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Last month, the Indian government canceled the e-Visa scheme, exacerbating the crisis. A surrender certificate is now required to obtain an entry visa to India and apply for an OCI card. On October 25, the Indian Embassy in Ottawa said that it would partially restore visa services for Canadian nationals traveling to India, however, the e-visa program has yet to resume.
