Colombia declares a national expedition to recover wealth lost at sea following a catastrophe. This will bring out a ship containing 200 tons of gold, silver, and emeralds. During a fight with the British, a Spanish ship sank off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia, in 1708. According to reports, the treasure on the ship is worth $20 billion in today's money. Divers from the Colombian government's Navy discovered the ship in 3100 feet of water in 2015. A team also photographed the ship's loot in 2022. The treasure ship could be dismantled before the current president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, finishes his term in 2026.
