The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will lay off 600 workers.

 

It has been announced that Radio Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) will be laying off roughly 600 workers. Moreover, CBC reported that about 200 open positions will not be filled anytime soon. According to CBC, the job losses were caused by rising production costs, a decline in television advertising, and fierce competition from large digital companies.

According to officials, CBC and Radio Canada will eliminate roughly 250 positions. The remaining positions will be eliminated from corporate divisions like infrastructure and technology. The CBC will also be cutting funding for its English and French programming in addition to job losses.
