The Alberta government has approved an amendment regarding gifts to MLAs and staff. Before taking effect, a monetary gift, gift, or fee may be made. In November, Law Minister Mickey Amery submitted legislation to modify the Conflicts of Interest Act.Non-monetary gifts to politicians were previously limited at $200. And elected officials could receive up to $400 in tickets every year from any one source. It has now been increased to $500.Meanwhile, the Premier's essential staff can take gifts worth more than $500, and gifts worth more than $1,000 for an event, conference, or meeting, providing they are recorded and reported to the Alberta Ethics Commissioner
