Statistics Canada reports that the number of immigrants leaving the country within years of arriving in Canada is increasing. Statistics Canada reported that 15 percent of immigrants decided to leave Canada and return to their home country or immigrate to another country. The report also found that the number of immigrants who leave the country within three to seven years of arriving in Canada is high. The report has been prepared by examining the immigration status of immigrants from 1982 to 2017. The report also points out that 5.1 percent of immigrants who came to Canada during this period left the country within five years.

Immigrants born in Taiwan, the United States, France, Hong Kong and Lebanon who were admitted to Canada in the investment and enterprise categories are more likely to immigrate to other countries or return to their home countries, the report found. Reportedly, some of the wealthiest immigrants in the investment category have migrated to other countries within 20 years of arriving in Canada. The report also said that they intend to leave the country as soon as they arrive in Canada.
