Ontario Superior Court Justice Robert Maranger has sentenced former RCMP intelligence officer Cameron Ortiz to fourteen years in prison for leaking national secrets. Assistant Crown Attorney Judy Cleaver said Ortiz's fraud put the safety of Canadian citizens at risk. Justice said Ortiz's actions undermined Canada's reputation in the intelligence community internationally.

In November, a court found Ortiz guilty of violating Canada's Official Secrets Act. He was charged with breach of trust and misuse of computer system. Ortiz is the first person to be convicted in a trial under Canada's official secrets law, the Canada Security of Information Act.
