Home Minister Amit Shah says CAA will not take away anyone's citizenship

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be notified and implemented before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024, Shah emphasized that the CAA is an act of granting citizenship and does not take away anyone's citizenship and aims to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants.

Parliament passed the CAA in December 2019. For the first time in Indian history, the upcoming general elections will be held to make India a developed nation by 2047 and "most of its work will begin in Modi's third term," the home minister said. He also expressed confidence that the people will give a clear verdict on the issue. He added that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will return to power with a huge majority. Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also presented Swashraya Bharat Agenda to the nation along with the vision of a developed India by 2047.
