The Alberta government has introduced a new immigration plan to help grow the tourism and hospitality industry in the province. The now introduced Tourism and Hospitality stream is part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. The program allows the government to fill job vacancies by nominating skilled and experienced migrants.

Experts in the field say that hotels and restaurants in the province are currently facing a labor shortage. They are hoping that there will be a solution to this through the new program.

Employees who have been working in the new stream tourism hospitality business for at least six months and meet Alberta residency criteria will be eligible for employment in the new stream, according to a government news release.
