Onion export ban will continue till March 31, says Centre

The center has clarified that the ban on onion export will continue till March 31. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said the ban will continue amid reports that the ban may be lifted.

Export of onion was earlier banned from December 8 last year to March 31 this year to ensure availability of onion at affordable prices to domestic consumers. The government has taken the decision keeping in view the global situation such as delay in Kharif arrival, volume of onion exports and trade and non-trade restrictions imposed by major suppliers like Turkey, Egypt and Iran.
