Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced $175 million in funding to rapidly build more than 5,200 new housing units in Edmonton over the next three years. Trudeau said during the announcement at an apartment complex construction site in southwest Edmonton that they are changing the way housing is built in the country. He added that the Federal Housing Accelerator Program is providing funding and removing barriers to building homes.

Trudeau said the funds will create more housing options in the city, including more rental homes, affordable apartments and housing near university and college campuses. Edmonton Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Randy Boissonault and Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi also attended the press conference.
