The federal government has introduced the new 'Online Harms Act', or Bill C-63, which will force digital media platforms to remove harmful sexual content. The bill aims to set up a new digital safety watchdog to take action against sites that include harmful sexual content. The bill also includes toughening Canada's penalties for hate speech and sharing content that sexually exploits children. Justice Minister Arif Virani introduced the long-awaited law on Monday.
Minimize access to harmful content for customers and make the operations of online services transparent to deal with harmful content on platforms.
The bill targets social media services, live-streaming services and user-uploaded adult content services.
