Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday vetoed legislation that would have created stricter social media bans for minors in Florida. Social media companies will be banned from giving 14- and 15-year-olds access to the platforms unless their parents give them consent.

The provision marks a significant departure from original policy, which was the result of negotiations between DeSantis and Renner, even as lawmakers made several changes in hopes of assuaging the Republican governor's concerns, but DeSantis signaled he was not fully involved in the legislation and decided to block the proposal.

Senators in favor of the move left a path open for lawmakers to change the proposal again after reaching an agreement with the governor.
