Winter storm: Snow warning of up to 80cm possible in Newfoundland and Labrador

Environment Canada has warned that up to 80 centimeters of snow is possible in parts of Newfoundland within 48 hours as part of a powerful winter storm. A weather warning was issued for southern and eastern Newfoundland on Thursday.

Environment Canada said 50 cm to 80 cm of snow is expected to fall on the Northern Avalon Peninsula, which includes metro St. John's, during the storm that will last through Saturday morning. Between 30cm and 50cm of snow is expected on the Burin Peninsula. The weather agency warned that a few hours of freezing rain could also be expected in southern parts of Burr and Southern Avalon.
