New Delhi: NASA Administrator Bill Nelson has expressed concern that China is hiding its military activities in space under the cover of civilian activities. Speaking before the House Appropriations Committee on NASA's 2025 budget, Nelson emphasized the secretive nature of China's space missions and made clear that the United States is in a space race with China. NASA has also stated that China's program in space is largely a military operation. He also said that China should realize the importance of maintaining outer space as a zone for peaceful affairs.

China has announced that it will operate its own space station, Tiangong, which will house three Chinese astronauts. The International Space Station (ISS) is currently operating with tourists from Europe, Canada, Japan and Russia with the help of NASA. Nelson also shared the concern that China may reach the moon before the US and monopolize lunar resources.
