JioMagic overtakes China Mobile to become the world's number one mobile operator in data traffic

Delhi: Reliance Jio has overtaken China Mobile as the world's largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic. Total traffic on the Jio network reached 40.9 exabytes in the first quarter of 2024, compared to China Mobile's 38 exabytes, global analytics firm Teficiant revealed. Jio also has the second largest 5G subscribers in the world with 108 million users. As of March 2024, Jio had a total subscriber base of 481.8 million. Of that, 108 million subscribers are on Jio's True5G standalone network.

5G services account for approximately 28% of mobility data traffic. Monthly data traffic on Jio network has crossed 14 exabytes. India's monthly mobile data traffic was 4.5 exabytes in 2018. Annual data traffic has increased by 2.4 times post-Covid. Per capita monthly data usage has risen to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. Reliance Jio on Monday announced its last quarter results for the last financial year. Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that Jio is leading the 5G transformation in India.
