Calgary and Edmonton to record population growth in 2023

 

Calgary has the highest population growth rate in Canada, surpassing Canada's largest cities. Statistics Canada reported that Calgary's population reached 1,682,509 as of July 1, 2023, with the addition of 1.6 million new people. Among Canada's six cities with a population of over 100,000, Calgary's growth rate is 5.9 percent. Following Calgary, all six cities experienced population growth, according to the report. Edmonton (4.1 per cent), Vancouver (4.1 per cent), Toronto (3.3 per cent), Montreal (2.9 per cent) and Ottawa (2.6 per cent) experienced population growth. 

Alberta saw population growth in four major cities: Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Red Deer. According to Statistics Canada report, population growth is due to interprovincial migration.
