Planes collided in mid-air; A tragic end for the pilot, the incident occurred during an air show

Lisbon: The pilot was killed when two small planes collided during the air show. The incident took place in southern Portugal. The Portuguese Air Force said that it regretted that two planes had crashed during an air show involving six planes at the air show. It was informed that the incident happened at 4:05 pm local time. Portuguese media reported that the pilot of one of the planes had died.

Two Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft, a Soviet-designed aerobatic training model, were involved in the crash. The pilot, a Spanish citizen, died. The pilot of the second plane was able to land safely. Rescuers immediately reached the spot. The show at Beja airport has been suspended, organizers said.

A video shot by a person who was at the scene has emerged. Six planes can be seen taking off. One of them would hit the other and fall down. Portuguese media reported that the six planes were part of the 'Yak Stars' aerobatic group, citing people at the scene. Those who came to see the event said that the organizers presented it as the largest civil aerobatics group in Southern Europe.
