Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has reportedly increased the number of US citizens considering immigrating to Canada. Immigration lawyers say more Americans are choosing to emigrate to foreign countries to escape Trump. Toronto-based immigration lawyer Jacqueline Barth says many immigration applications from people who want to move to Canada arrive in Canada for processing. Bart told the media that there has been a significant increase in immigration interest since Trump's trial and conviction.

Bart says the majority of Americans who want to move to Canada are liberal middle-aged Americans. But only half of them will be able to work and live in Canada, Bart said. They say immigration can make it difficult to find full-time employment or start a business in Canada.

The outcome of November's US election could lead to renewed interest. But it's unclear how many Americans will immigrate. Immigration can be difficult at times.

According to data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), 88,830 US citizens have been admitted to Canada as permanent residents since 2015. After the 2016 election, there was a slight uptick in immigration when Trump took office.
