Nine people including Malawian Vice President Solos Klaus Chilima (51) died in the plane crash. Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera said that the plane carrying the vice president and officials had crashed and the plane was found in the forest and no one could be saved.

"The plane has been found and I am very sorry to inform you all that it has turned into a terrible tragedy," Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera told the media. The Solos returned on Monday for the funeral of former Malawi minister Ralph Kasambara. The plane, which took off from the capital Lilongwe, soon disappeared from the radar.

The accident happened due to bad weather. The flight took off at 9.17 am. It was supposed to land at Masuzu airport in the northern region of Malawi at around 10:30. But the accident occurred while the plane was diverting to the capital Lilongwe after failing to land at Masuzu.
