Nikhil Gupta, an Indian accused in the case of conspiracy to kill Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu on American soil, has reportedly pleaded not guilty in a US court. Nikhil Gupta, who was arrested last year in the Czech Republic at the request of the US government, was extradited to the US on Friday. Gupta was arraigned in federal court in New York on Monday. Nikhil Gupta has denied the charges, lawyer Jeffrey Shabro said.
Prosecutors filed charges against Gupta in federal court. Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic on June 30 for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill Pannun. The arrest was made under an extradition treaty between the United States and the Czech Republic. According to the chargesheet, Gupta was assigned by an Indian official in Delhi to organize the hitman.
