Fire at battery factory in South Korea; 22 people were killed

Seoul: 22 people were killed in a fire at a lithium bacteria factory in South Korea, the fire department said. Workers were inspecting and packing batteries on the second floor of the factory when the explosion occurred.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the factory in the city of Hwaseong, south of Seoul. A fire official said that there were around 100 workers in the factory. 22 people including 20 foreign nationals were killed in the fire. 18 Chinese and one from Laos died in the crash. The fire official said that it was not possible to confirm the nationality of the deceased.
