It was decided to release the Indians illegally recruited into the Russian army. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs informed that the decision was taken in the discussion held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Indian officials say Modi wore it while attending a dinner with Putin on Monday. According to Modi's request, Putin informed that he will take steps to release them from the army and send them back home.

Many Indians were forced to serve in the Russian army as a result of job fraud. Four Indian nationals were also killed in the war in Ukraine. Following this, families of Indians stuck in Russia came forward demanding the intervention of the central government.
