Paris Olympics: Canada wins first gold; Christa Deguchi Gold Star in Judo; Second gold in swimming

 

Canada wins first gold at Paris Olympics Krista Deguchi won gold for Canada in the women's under-57kg judo competition at the Champ-de-Mars Arena in Paris. Krista Deguchi defeated South Korean Mimi Hu in the final.

Canada sweeps the medals from the swimming pool. Canadian teenager Summer McIntosh won gold in the women's 400m individual medley. The Toronto native won her second medal of the Paris Olympics by swimming in 4 minutes 27.71 seconds. Summer McIntosh, who will compete in the 200m medley and butterfly later this week, won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle. Won bronze in men's synchronized 10m platform event. Nathan Somber Murray and Rylan Wiens won bronze for the country with 422.13 points.
