Washington: A Pakistani citizen has been arrested for plotting to kill top American leaders including former President Donald Trump. 46-year-old Asif Merchant was taken into custody by the FBI on July 12. The main charge against him is that he arranged for hired assassins to assassinate top American political leaders in August-September. He was arrested when he was about to leave America. The charge sheet was submitted to the court yesterday by the Central Justice Department.
The FBI also alleged that he had ties to Iran. Meanwhile, there is no indication that Asif's attack plan had anything to do with the July 13 assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. He is known as Asif Raza Merchant. He has wives and children in Pakistan and Iran. According to his travel documents, Asif traveled frequently to Iran, Syria and Iraq.
For his plans, Asif Merchant hired people he thought were criminals. But they were actually secret agents. The FBI says this is where he went wrong. He was arrested on July 12 while preparing to board the flight.
