Fraud targeting consumers; BC Hydro with warning

 

BC Hydro and the police have warned consumers about scammers using fake customer support numbers to steal personal information. Beecy RCMP said around 100 such scams have been reported across the province. Consumers are lured by paid advertisements that show that customers who want to get new service or reconnect service can contact BC Hydro. According to the RCMP and BC Hydro, they have given a fake number in the ad. In addition, the RCMP said that the link provided in the advertisement in the name of Beecy Hydro was a link to a fake website.

Police and BC Hydro said they are working to remove fake ads and websites from search engines. It was also suggested that anyone who is a victim of fraud should report to the police.
