Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Yves Leger announced. He said many areas of the province reported more than usual cases of whooping cough. Leger said the situation is being closely monitored and is working with health professionals, community members and the public to minimize the risk.
So far this year, 141 cases of whooping cough have been reported in the province. Most of the cases are in the Bathurst and Acadian Peninsula region. But the new cases reported recently are from outside the region, he said. Leger recommended that everyone receive the whooping cough vaccine.
