A shocking new study reveals that Canada lacks quality rest stops for long-haul truck drivers who haul goods across the country for a living. Rest centers are essential to the health and well-being of truck drivers who haul billions of dollars worth of cargo across the country. But researchers say drivers are finding it difficult to find quality centers on the go.

Rest, sleep, drinking water, food, toilet etc. are of utmost importance. But a lack of proper rest stops can have a negative impact on drivers' mental and physical health, says University of Saskatchewan researcher Alexander Krisil, who studies the health of truckers. Insomnia and lack of proper rest also increase the risk. According to Crisil, lack of attention and sleepiness when hitting vehicles increase accidents on the roads. And diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure are more common among truck drivers than the general population. The prevalence of chronic diseases is also high among them. Being away from family and loved ones for long periods of time due to long distance travel can lead to a breakdown in social relationships and isolation. He also explained that this leads to deterioration in mental health.
