One more death has been reported in the United States due to a defective Takata airbag inflator. In 2018, the driver of a Honda in Etowah County, Alabama, was killed when an airbag exploded, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was a 2004 model Honda Civic car. But the administration has not released more details. With this, the number of people who died due to airbag explosions in the United States is reported to be 28.
The administration says the deaths underscore the need to replace the recalled airbag inflators. It is estimated that more than 400 people have been injured in the United States due to airbag failure. 36 people were killed in Malaysia, Australia and the United States due to Takata inflator failure.
Last month, Ford and Mazda warned owners not to use vehicles with Takata airbags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that when vehicles with Takata airbags are involved in a crash, the inflators may explode and eject the metal canister, causing serious injury or death to the occupants.
