Immigration Minister Mark Miller said that the Pakistani citizen who was arrested in Quebec and has ties to the IS terrorist organization came to Canada on a student visa. Muhammad Shazeb Khan (20), who planned to carry out a terrorist attack on a Jewish center in New York, was arrested. The plan was to launch the attack on October 7, the anniversary of the Israeli Hamas attack.

He was on his way to the US border when he was arrested in Omstown, Quebec, near the US-Canada border. The minister told the media that Muhammad Shazeb Khan got a student visa in May 2023 and arrived at Toronto's Pearson Airport on June 24, 2023. Miller added that the government is taking seriously the serious security breach that allowed a terrorist to enter Canada on a student visa.
