Vatican: Pope Francis criticized both candidates in the American presidential election. Both candidates are pro-abortion and anti-immigration. Pope Francis responds that the only way forward for voters is to choose the lesser evil. It is rare for the Pope to make a political response.
The Pope has called on Catholic voters to choose those who are less evil. Pope Francis calls Trump's anti-immigration stance a grave sin and Kamala Harris' pro-abortion stance murder. The Pope responded on Friday that one is expelling refugees and the other is killing children, both of which are acts against life.
But the Pope did not include the names of the two candidates in the remarks. American Catholics account for 52 million of the 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide. The Pope also asked everyone to register to vote. The Pope makes it clear that voting is not a bad thing, everyone must participate and choose the lesser evil.
This is not the first time the Pope has made remarks against Trump. During the 2016 election, the Pope described Trump as a non-Christian because of his stance on immigration. Recently, Trump has responded that he will deport hundreds of thousands of refugees if he comes to power. It is also noteworthy that the Pope's response came after the first debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
