Cyclone Yagi wreaks havoc in Myanmar. The death toll from the cyclone has risen to 74. It is reported that 89 people are missing. The spike in the death toll comes shortly after the military appealed for foreign aid to deal with the natural disaster, raising concerns.
More than 350 people have lost their lives in Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand in floods and landslides following the cyclone. Cyclone Yagi is the strongest storm to hit Asia this year. Flooding rivers have submerged cities across the region.
Floods have destroyed more than 65,000 homes and five dams, according to a Global New Light report on Myanmar. Corridors including the capital city of Naypyidaw have been flooded. Many farms have been destroyed. Landslides have been reported in hilly areas. 82 relief camps have already been opened.
