Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's application backlog has reportedly exceeded one million for the first time in months. According to the new data, 1,002,400 applications are backlogged till July 31, 2024 out of a total of 2,364,700 applications currently in inventory. 1,362,000 applications are being processed. The figures show an increase of 199,800 applications in the backlog compared to the previous year when 2,274,600 applications were in inventory.
Applications not processed within IRCC's published service standards will be considered backlogged. This is the standard time frame the department will consider for processing the application. IRCC says 80 percent of all applications are processed in accordance with service standards. The remaining 20 percent are applications that are considered more complex or require additional time for other reasons.
As of July 31, IRCC reported a total of 766,200 applications for permanent resident immigration programs, including Express Entry Programs, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Express Entry Aligned Stream, Children, Partners and Spouse Sponsorship Program. Of these, 467,200 were processed according to service standards and the remaining 299,000 were considered backlog.
