The world's longest tunnel in Ontario!

 

The Ontario government claims that Canada will have one of the longest tunnels in the world. Premier Doug Ford announced at a press conference that the feasibility study for a new driver and transit tunnel expressway to be built under Highway 401 has begun. The Ontario government claims a new expressway could provide a new, faster route to the province's most gridlocked roads north of downtown Toronto. The tunnel extends beyond Brampton and Mississauga in the west and beyond Markham and Scarborough in the east.

Highway 401 through the GTA is considered the busiest highway in North America. The new tunnel is being built with the aim of reducing this congestion. This will significantly reduce traffic in the GTA and Hamilton area. In addition, the government said in a statement that the new expressway will be a new asset for economic growth by helping to bring goods and services to the market quickly during construction and in the long term. However, it is not clear how much the tunnel will cost.
