The Calgary Foundation's 2024 Quality of Life Report shows that the quality of life in Calgary will decline by 14 per cent from 2020. The report found that the high cost of living, pressure on the housing market and population growth have contributed to the deterioration of the quality of life of Calgary residents. According to the report, 54 per cent of Calgarians who work full-time are struggling to find suitable accommodation. In 2023, it will rise to 40 percent.

Financial burden is more for those who find a place to stay. Rising cost of living also affects food security. The report points out that the number of people who are unable to buy food products is increasing. There was a significant increase in the price of food items. This has led to increased demand for services such as the Calgary Food Bank, the report states. Families with young children suffer the most. The report indicates that 39 percent of parents say they have cut back on their meals to ensure food for their children.
