Robot vacuum cleaning machines in multiple US cities have reportedly been hacked. A hacked vacuum cleaner even reports that he was racially abused. A report from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation states that the hack was caused by a security flaw in the Chinese-made Ecowax Deebot X2.
One that was hacked was a vacuum cleaner in a Minnesota lawyer's home. While working, I heard something like a radio signal. Then I checked the Ecowax app and found the remote control to be in the hands of a stranger. The live camera was also on. He immediately reset the password and rebooted the vacuum. But the lawyer said some racially abusive noises came out of the robotic vacuum cleaner.
Tech Crunch reports that Ecowax is very easy to hack and has been a problem for some time. There are also reports that a few days ago an Ecovacs vacuum cleaner chased a pet dog around a house in Los Angeles.
According to an ABC report, the hacking spree that took place in May was reported in multiple cities. But the report said it was unclear how many vacuum cleaner machines were affected by the problem. A vacuum cleaner costs around $2000.
