A new pandemic report warns that Canada must act now to prepare for the next health emergency. An expert panel of doctors and researchers reports that Canada needs to learn from the Covid pandemic and take action before the next pandemic.
Dr. Fahad Razzaq, one of the six researchers who led the report, said that "most researchers think we may be facing some kind of health emergency similar to what we have experienced in the last five years." He also stated that many of the recent and current developments in the health sector at the global level indicate that preparedness is critical, compared to the responses during the pandemic.
The report, The Time to Act Now, calls for more effective communication between provinces and territories and the federal government about disease surveillance, hospitalization data and research findings. The report also states that Canada should create a single permanent scientific advisory group similar to the one created in the UK.
