Switzerland is about to implement the burqa ban in the country. The Act will officially come into effect on January 1, 2025. With this, Switzerland will also join the list of countries that have banned face coverings such as the burqa and niqab. The ban is being implemented citing various reasons ranging from national security to social cohesion. The move to ban the face veil in Switzerland will be implemented following a referendum held in 2021. Previously, 16 countries including Tunisia, Austria, Denmark, France and Belgium have implemented the burqa ban.
