Former British Columbia Premier John Horgan has died. He was undergoing treatment for cancer. He was 65 years old. His family has officially released the death information. He died at the BC Cancer Centre, Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
Horgan was one of the most popular premiers in British Columbia's history. Often his popularity ratings were above 60 percent. John Horgan served as Premier of BC from July 2017 to October 21, 2022. Horgan emerged as a leader of national importance in the 2017 election. Horgan and the NDP won 41 of B.C.'s 87 seats to form government. He brought many schemes that were very beneficial to the people in the first quarter of his administration. It was during his tenure that medical service premium plan fees were waived and tolls on two Metro Vancouver bridges were abolished. Apart from this, he initiated various social welfare schemes. He was also highly appreciated for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Horgan was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2021 while serving as premier. Following this, he resigned as Prime Minister in 2022. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences on Horgan's death. Justin Trudeau said Horgan was a leader who led BC through its most challenging times.
