After Donald Trump was elected as the president for the second time in the United States, the number of people looking for contraceptive methods is increasing. Reports are that everyone is worried about what stance Trump will take if he comes to power because he is against abortion.
After Trump's victory, doctors say many messages have come in seeking permanent methods of contraception. More people are looking for methods of long-term birth control and permanent sterilization. Companies selling emergency contraceptive pills and abortion pills are also getting more orders. Within 60 hours of the election, sales of emergency contraceptives increased by 966%. When Trump was first elected in 2016, there was an increase in sales of contraceptives. Alphonso, a doctor at Duke University in North Carolina, said the increase was noticed around the time the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade case in 2022. But she also said that women are more afraid now than they were then.
During a televised interview in May, Trump made it clear that he was willing to support contraception laws. But after further discussion, he withdrew from this position. The US Supreme Court overturned a 1973 ruling that made abortion constitutional. Most Republican states follow a stance that prohibits abortion in whole or in part. Trump's position is that the ban on abortion will be implemented nationwide. That is why the need for contraceptives is increasing
