Two children's hospitals in Montreal are urging parents to avoid bringing their children to emergency rooms as much as possible for non-emergency situations as the number of patients increases daily. The hospital managements of CHU Saint-Justine and Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) said in a news release that emergency rooms are under pressure due to the increase in the number of sick people arriving at hospitals due to viral infections and respiratory infections.
No child in need of medical attention will be neglected. However, if children with cold, flu, gastroenteritis and mild symptoms arrive at the emergency room, they may have to wait several hours to see a doctor, CHU St. Justin Medical Chief Dr. Antonio D'Angelo said. MCH Emergency Director Dr. Harley Esman announced. He added that children who are not seriously ill or otherwise injured may consider other options, such as calling 8-1-1 or visiting walk-in clinics.
