Indian student dies in US car accident; 41-year-old woman arrested after one year for failing to stop

 

 

New York: Suspect arrested in US car accident death of Indian student. Jill Ogelly, 41, arrested. The suspect has been arrested after a year in the case of Priyanshu Agarwal (23) who was hit by a car and died. The vehicle did not stop after hitting the student.

The incident took place on October 18, 2023. Priyanshu Agarwal, a student at the University of New Haven, died in the accident with only a few months left to complete his studies. His brother Aman alleged that the driver's failure to stop the car after the accident made Priyanshu's injuries serious and this later led to his death.

New Haven Police Chief Carl Jacobson said that there was not enough evidence to prove Jill Ogelly guilty at the time of the accident. Later, GPS data from Jill Ogelly's phone was collected. This helped in the investigation of the case. Forensic examination of the car found Priyanshu's DNA. Police confirmed that Ogelli was the owner from the vehicle's registration certificate and subsequently arrested him.
