City officials expect to see a reduction in Nmax bills in Calgary by 2025. The electricity franchise fee, also known as the local access fee, will be fixed at .015507 per kilowatt-hour starting Jan. 1. The change is expected to reduce the franchise fee for the average customer by 30%.

The fixed rate will apply to all Calgary customers, regardless of their energy retailer. The new fee structure is aimed at making electricity bills more affordable for Calgary residents. However, the city has clarified that the change will only apply to electricity fees. The natural gas franchise fee will not be affected. The adjustment is part of a broader effort to control the city’s energy costs and provide relief to customers.
