Dozens of luxury condos and hotels in Florida are sinking, according to a study led by scientists at the University of Miami. The study found that 35 buildings from Golden Beach to Miami Beach sank by up to three inches between 2016 and 2023.

The sinking includes buildings that house tens of thousands of residents and tourists, including the Carlton Residences, Trump Tower III, Trump International Beach Resorts, and the iconic Surf Club Towers. The researchers said the main reason behind the sinking of the buildings is the vibrations caused by construction. This can cause soil particles to compress and gradually lower the buildings. The study says that about 70% of the buildings in northern and central Sunny Isles Beach are sinking. 23% of the buildings in these locations were built in the last decade. In addition to construction vibrations, it is estimated that daily tides are also causing buildings to sink.
